The topic title made me laugh. Thank you. :) I do feel that the person misquoted Mark Twain somewhat though. It ain't those parts of the Bible that I can't understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do understand. What Mark is saying is not that he is afraid of the hell which the Bible describes. What he is saying more is that he finds the world view the Bible presents as something negative and bad. Kinda like how, if you say, "Evolutionary theory scares me", then it's not that you mean you think it's so true and perfect that it threatens your world-view. You are scared because you think it presents a world-view that is dangerous and harmful to society and Christianity. As for the no such thing as an atheist, that's a lame argument. The Bible says that the earth and heavens declares that there is a God, so that nobody is excused from believing in God. Well, so what if the Bible says that? It sounds like you are starting from the platform that everybody agrees that the Bible is the truth. I don't agree with that, and neither does the majority of the population. The argument doesn't work on us, only on Christians (and you don't need to convince Christians that God exists ;) If you are going to pose an argument about something, you need to use things that people agree about. If I took up the Quran and read a verse about how you know that Allah is the one true God, it's not going to convince you, because you don't believe that in what the Quran says. Furthermore, his arguments that our conscience knows that things like pornography is wrong. It's only the same argument repacked. Most people don't think that. It's just your opinion. It doesn't matter if you say it's the word of God, because that being the word of God is also just your opinion. It really amounts to nothing more than saying "I'm right and you know it" and expecting that people will agree with you. When I look at trees, I see....trees. Not God. That's the deal. Call me a liar if you will, but that's the stance I'm taking. I look at the world and I see a world, not the fingerprints of a supreme being. And how come Christians only points to some part of creation anyway? It's easy to point to waterfalls and sunsets and such, while ignoring the delicate design of the AIDS virus.
