SIN
The Bible teaches explicitly that sin is transgression of God’s law (1 John 3:4). God’s law is a reflection of His morally self-consistent character and nature. Thus when we break God’s laws we are in rebellion or opposition to God’s morally self-consistent character and nature. God’s attributes that flow from His morally self-consistent nature is the foundation for our understanding of all things. Goodness derives from the character of God. God is by nature good (Psalm 34:8, Psalm 136:1). Justice like goodness derives from the character of God. These attributes are dependent not independent of God. So everything God does is good and just because it is defined by God’s character and nature. God is not above His laws rather they derive from His morally self-consistent character and nature. God is not above His own character and nature.
Sin can be defined in many different ways, but it must always be in relationship to God. Sin is defined as anything that is contrary to God’s character and nature. Implicitly the definition presupposes God as the standard of what is sin. God’s character is what determines the laws He establishes, thus sin is transgression of the law. However, a more precise definition is sin is anything that does not conform to the mind and law of God, which includes the previous definition. In addition to the definition of sin what exactly is it? Is it a substance? A feeling? Or an action? Most people when they think of the term "sin" they think of a particular action like murder or adultery, however, scripture says sin is much more than an action it is a reigning power, a principle that enslaves the unregenerate.
John 8:34 - "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin."
2 Peter 2:19 - by what a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved.
Titus 3:3 - For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another.
Galatians 4:8-9 - However at that time, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those which by nature are no gods. But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how is it that you turn back again to the weak and worthless elemental things, to which you desire to be enslaved all over again?
Romans 6:6,16,17,19,20 - our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin... Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey...? But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart... For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.
Romans 7:14 - For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am of flesh, sold into bondage to sin.
Romans 6:20 - For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.
2 Timothy 2:25-26 - if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.

We are morally and spiritually dead when we are born. As someone that is physically dead is unable to change his condition and is unaware of the seriousness of their well-being or does not care for the things of the living so too is the unregenerate spiritually dead (Eph 2:1) unable to change, unaware of the seriousness of their condition, and does not care for the things of God (the spiritual). As innate sinners deprived of moral and spiritual righteousness we have an inclination or a disposition to sin (do that which is unrighteous).
The mind and body was affected by Adam’s transgression in such a way that his progeny have a proclivity towards sin. Although sin is not a material substance or an immaterial entity deposited in the mind of man it is the loss of righteousness that has inherently permeated the constitution of man and left him in a state of moral inability and spiritually dead.
Sin is not a substance or immaterial entity independent of God rather it is a deprivation of original righteousness. Sin is naturally desired in our fallen condition, but sin is unnatural to the well-being of our souls.
